'Papaya Popsicle''Mango Popsicle''Fire Glow''Poco Orange'and'Poco Yellow'were used to compare flower morphological characteristics and investigate the pollen viability and stigma receptivity.Morphological characteristics of flowers were observed by sensory measurements. The pollen viability was assessed using the aceto-carmine staining method and compared by in vitro cul-ture with different sucrose concentration. The stigma receptivity was detected by benzidine-H2O2 per-oxide method and artificial pollination. The results showed that the flower shape and color of'Papa-ya Popsicle'were the best. The highest and the lowest of the pollen viability were'Poco Orange'(69.18%)and'Mango Popsicle'(36.42%)respectively.The pollen germination results showed that a 5%sucrose concentration was more suitable for'Fire Glow'in vitro culture with a germination rate of 2.08%,a 10%sucrose concentration was more suitable for'Poco Orange'in vitro culture with a germination rate of 2.38%.The results of stigma receptivity showed that the receptivity of'Papaya Popsicle'was the best,'Poco Orange'and'Poco Yellow'were extremely low.The highest fruit set-ting rate was 40%of'Papaya Popsicle'×'Mango Popsicle'among the three hybridization combina-tions.The study provides an experimental basis for the artificial hybrid breeding of Kniphofia uvaria.
