Intergenerational Inheritance and Historical Narration in the Belief Space of Houshiwu
Although there are very few tourists in the remote valley,the Yuanjun Temple in Houshiwu,located in the Mount Tai,has been guarded by nuns since its establishment in the late Ming Dynasty to the collapse of the late Qing Dynasty,and the intergenerational inheritance shows amazing continuity.By sorting out existing historical materials,a clear lineage of hos-ting and inheriting can be summarized.Based on this lineage,combined with a broader historical narrative of temples,the ambiguous characteristics of religious nature reflected in this belief space can be elucidated,which is precisely the full mani-festation of its folk belief space nature.By sorting out the intergenerational inheritance pedigree in the belief space of Houshiwu and exploring the belief characteristics displayed in the relevant historical narrative,we can not only provide a historical basis for further discussing the nature of its folk belief space,but also lay a theoretical foundation for exploring the unique position of Houshiwu in the whole belief space of Mount Tai.
