Role of Application Service Providers in the Internet Based Business

扫码查看
With the emergence of the Internet, the established boundaries of the organizations are becoming blurred and it is becoming mandatory to revise traditional business models in response to internet based developments. A growing number of businesses are finding that they can save money by using collaboration in form of application service providers (ASPs) that use the Internet to offer a range of software and services that would otherwise be performed by internal departments at the company. By hiring application service providers, companies not only lease the software and server computers that house the business applications, but also rely on the skills and knowledge of the ASPs to manage information technology infrastructure. It is envisaged that ASP innovation is the next great business tool. In future, ASPs, on their Internet servers, may host software packages like those ranging from Microsoft Office 2000 to electronic banking. The emergence and expansion of the ASP market is a part of a natural evolution in business communications that can result in massive declines in telecommunication costs and the shift towards network computing architecture. This paper described the role of ASPs in the internet based business. This paper also shows that by becoming an integral part of the new electronic service systems, ASPs have created a new framework for Internet based business model.
