Treatment of Staggered Mesh in BWR Pin-by-pin Fine Mesh Core Analysis

The pin-by-pin fine mesh core analysis method is considered as a candidate of next-generation core calculation method for BWR. The pin-by-pin fine mesh core calculation has been applied to PWR and its prediction accuracy has been investigated . Since the pin-by-pin fine mesh core analysis method only homogenizes the heterogeneous structure inside a fuel cell, the accuracy of the pin-wise fission rate will be higher than that of the current nodal method which performs homogenization of inside an assembly. In our previous study, the pin-by-pin core analysis approach is applied to BWR multi-assembly geometries to investigate its prediction accuracy . The method of characteristics (MOC) is applied for the cell-homogeneous pin-by-pin calculation, in the precedent study. The analysis results indicate that application of the pin-by-pin fine-mesh calculation for BWR core analysis will be promising. Since the detailed transport calculation method (e.g. MOC, S_N) requires longer calculation time, the simplified P_3 (SP_3) theory is applied to the cell-homogenized pin-by-pin analysis in this study.
