White light emission and superior photoelctrochemical response from semi-metallic graphitic carbon nitride analogue: g-C_4N_3

The white light emitting property of graphitic-carbon nitride structures have been long in debate for possible various structures: but due to lack of stable and responsive synthesis routes, it was a major pull back to limit their developments. Here in, we address the benchmark of other stable carbon-nitride allotrope having conformational structure as gC_4N_3 synthesized via solvothermal method by incorporating egg white albumin with ethylenedi-amine as starting precursor and resulting nanostructure was termed as the white light emitting carbon nitride (WgCN). The WgCN is studied in two solvents, ethanol and water. This nanomaterial was intensively explored for the optical and structural (chemical and morphology) properties. Having a fairly nice white light emission is marked due to the presence of dual wide bandgaps of ~ 2.7 eV and ~ 3.4 eV. Inheritance of such band nature is subjection to presence of hybrid sp2/sp3 behavior of gC_4N_3. In addition, we also explored its photo-electrochemical application for selective detection of Hydrogen Peroxide (H_2O_2) with high sensitivity and low limits of detection (LODs) of 12.2 nM. The phenomenal emission of white light from metal free carbon-based nanostructure is remarkable property, endeavoring ample of possibility to be implied for biosensors, bio-imaging, organic-LEDs and other applications requiring white light in the near future.
