Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“The present disclosure is related to methods and systems for inspecting an underground vault.“Underground utility vaults house utility equipment such as electricity distribution, gas, communications,cable and data equipment. Underground electrical vaults, in particular, are commonly used inpower distribution systems. They may contain switchgear, transformers, fuses, cables, and circuit breakers.Underground vaults are subject to a variety of adverse environmental factors, including flooding, pests,and toxic or explosive gases. Problems in vaults that are not addressed may lead to failures that posesevere safety hazards and can be expensive to repair. Also, some aging vaults may lack adequate documentationso that it is uncertain what components are within the vault as well as the condition of thosecomponents. Inspecting vaults enables determination and documentation of the contents and condition ofcomponents therewithin. Such documentation can be valuable in detecting and remedying dangerous andunsafe conditions.
