From the background information supplied by the inventors, news correspondents obtained the followingquote: “Ore is processed through a complex series of steps such as, for example, comminution, sizing,concentration (such as froth flotation), electrostatic or magnetic separation. There are many variables thatcan be adjusted to improve the processing, based on the characteristics of the ore being processed.”Supplementing the background information on this patent, NewsRx reporters also obtained the inventors’summary information for this patent: “In general, the disclosure relates to using an imaging capturesystem to record video, or a series of still images of ore fragments as the fragments are en route from onelocation to another in an ore processing facility. The images of ore fragments are then used as input toa machine learning model, which can correlate characteristics of the ore in the images with one or moreparameter measurements associated with the characteristics of the ore, and determine the characteristicsof the ore that is being imaged. These determined characteristics can then be readily displayed to a useron a computing device, or used as input to change an operating parameter or mode of operation of theprocessing facility. In one implementation the system can detect anomalous pieces of ore, and stop aconveyor belt, to allow for further inspection, or to prevent damage to equipment.
