News editors obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“As appreciated in the art, robots are often configured for cleaning a floor surface without the assistanceof an operator. That is, unlike handheld or upright vacuum cleaners or extraction cleaners, floor cleaningrobots are capable of autonomously performing a cleaning task by autonomously mapping and navigatinga defined floor surface and executing a cleaning program using an onboard control unit (“controller”). Inaddition to the controller, a typical floor cleaning robot is equipped with a rechargeable power source anda motorized drive system. The power source, typically a lithium-ion battery pack, is rechargeable using adocking station. In operation, the battery pack is discharged under supervision of the controller to energizethe motorized drive system, which in turn is connected to a set of drive wheels suitable for gripping andtraversing the floor surface.
