Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Since the inception of the practice of computer programming, software applications have been subject toproblems arising from unforeseen circumstances or scenarios that occur during their execution. That is,after an application has been developed and deployed in an operational environment, when it is executedby one or more physical computing machines or virtual computing machines (e.g., computing devices), theapplication can experience environmental scenarios for which the application’s designers and/or developersdid not anticipate. For example, due to increased usage, a network component of the application maygradually or suddenly experience increased traffic. If the increase in usage was not anticipated, the networkcomponent may not have sufficient bandwidth to meet the needs of the increased usage. In such a scenario,the application may not perform within user expectations, or the application may even “crash.” The term“resiliency” is typically employed to describe an application’s ability to react to issues in one or more of itscomponents, and still provide the best possible service to its users.
