According to news reporting originating from SMART by NewsRx correspondents,research stated, “Agri-environment-climate measures and organic farming support have beenthe main contractual instruments promoting environment-friendly agricultural practices in the EuropeanUnion since the early 90s.”Our news editors obtained a quote from the research from SMART: “They are insufficient in reachingsignificant environmental improvements, in particular because under-funded in comparison with incomesupport instruments. Using French panel data from the farm accountancy data network, we evaluatethe impact of a budget transfer from income support to environmental incentives on contract uptake. Weestimate the probability of adoption and the acceptable payment triggering this adoption with a generalisedTobit model, and use the estimations to simulate a transfer from direct payments to organic farming supportand agri-environment-climate measures budget. Results suggest this mechanism increases adoption.”
