Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background information supplied by theinventors: “Voice based or other natural language based (e.g., typed free-form input) control of variouscomputer applications has been proposed. However, such natural language based control of computerapplications is often rigid, only supporting certain natural language inputs and certain corresponding controlfunction(s). For example, a messaging application can support sending of an already composed message inresponse to user input of “send it”, but can fail to support more complex user inputs such as “convert thebullet points to a numbered list, then send it” and/or can fail for other less complex user inputs that werenot explicitly preconfigured by the application developer. Moreover, voice based control of the messagingapplication, while sending the message in response to user input of “send it”, can fail to send the composedmessage in response to certain semantically equivalent variants of “send it”, such as “go ahead and ship itout”.
