Abstract
The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background information supplied by theinventors: “In some applications, such as video surveillance applications, it is of interest to identify whenobjects cross a crossline in a scene captured by a camera in a sequence of video image frames. Hence, priorart solutions have been developed where the objects are detected and tracked in the sequence of videoimage frames using image processing. When the tracked objects cross a line in the sequence of imageframes, which line corresponds to the crossline in the scene, crossings of the crossline by the objects aredetected. The number of crossings can be kept track on by means of incrementation of a counter eachtime an object crosses the crossline is detected. In addition to detecting crossing of the crossline by anobject, the direction the object crosses the crossline can also be detected. A problem with such prior artsolutions is that object detection and tracking is computationally intensive.”
