Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Lithium-ion batteries have been widely adopted as the most promising portable energysource in electronic devices because of their high working voltage, high energy density, and good cyclicperformance. Lithium-ion batteries are used in electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. In these lithiumionbatteries, olivine-type cathode materials such as LiMPO4 (M=Fe and Mn) have attracted significantinterest, especially due to their low cost and high intrinsic safety. However, these materials have limitedenergy density compared to other materials.
