By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Robotics & Machine Learning Daily News Daily News – New study results on robotics have bee n published. According to news reporting from Coimbra, Portugal, by NewsRx journ alists, research stated, “This study evaluates the application of a discrete act ion space reinforcement learning method (Q-learning) to the continuous control p roblem of robot inverted pendulum balancing.” Funders for this research include Fundacao Para A Ciencia E A Tecnologia. The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from University of Coimbra : “To speed up the learning process and to overcome technical difficulties relat ed to the direct learning on the real robotic system, the learning phase is perf ormed in simulation environment. A mathematical model of the system dynamics is implemented, deduced by curve fitting on data acquired from the real system. The proposed approach demonstrated feasible, featuring its application on a real wo rld robot that learned to balance an inverted pendulum.”
