Abstract

Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Environmental modeling and localization for a basis for behav ior planning and maneuver planning for automated vehicles and mobile robots. For example, while robot vacuum cleaners often provide a simple occupancy grid, a s o-called occupancy map, robots and vehicles may, for example, require a semantic map and tracking of perceived objects in order to be able to plan safe maneuver s. In this respect, two approaches are in particular prevalent with regard to th e modeling of the static environment, such as lanes and lane markings, signage, etc. The first approach is based on the presence of a high-definition map (HD-MA P) to which the mobile agent can highly accurately localize itself. Drivable are as, lanes, lane markings, pedestrian areas, prescribed velocities, etc. can be s tored in such a map and can be available in current form to the agent during ope ration.
