Patent number 11913849 is assigned to Flexiv Ltd. (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) . The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “Most of the existing force and torque sensors u se contact-based strain gauges to convert strains of local structures caused by the global force and/or torque into electrical signals which will be amplified l ater. The strain gauges are usually bonded to such local structures, correspondi ng electrical signals are obtained when the strain gauges deform along with the local structures, and finally, forces and torques applied to the force and torqu e sensor are determined. For example, the Chinese patent application No. 2012105 89784.7 discloses such a six-dimension force and torque sensor with strain compo nents bonded to mechanical structures. However, each strain gauge is only sensit ive to a unique deformation patterns, but not sensitive to other deformations, w hich makes it is impossible for such strain gauge to be widely used in robots, a utomation industries, and laboratories.
