Abstract
News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: “There has been work on summarization in the legal domain, but little on legal deposition summarization. Rather, most of the works on summa rization are focused on legal judgments and contracts. An example is machine lea rning based techniques using different features to summarize legal judgments in the Australian Legal Information Institute (AustLII) corpus. One approach involv es using graphs, based on similarity of sentences in legal texts. Another approa ch assumes that a trial judgment text consists of seven rhetorical roles fact, p roceedings, background, proximity, distancing, framing, and disposal. Then, clas sification techniques can be used to assign rhetorical roles to the sentences, f ollowed by selecting the most relevant sentences from each rhetorical role using sentence ranking mechanisms.”
