Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “Biological modeling methods that rely on transc riptomics and/or other ‘omic’-based data, e.g., genomics, proteomics, metabolomi cs, lipidomics, glycomics, etc., can be used to provide meaningful and actionabl e diagnostics and prognostics for a medical condition. For example, several comm ercial genomic diagnostic tests are used to guide cancer treatment decisions. Th e Oncotype IQ suite of tests (Genomic Health) are examples of such genomic-based assays that provide diagnostic information guiding treatment of various cancers . For instance, one of these tests, ONCOTYPE DX® for breast cancer (Genomic Heal th) queries 21 genomic alleles in a patient’s tumor to provide diagnostic inform ation guiding treatment of early-stage invasive breast cancers, e.g., by providi ng a prognosis for the likely benefit of chemotherapy and the likelihood or recu rrence.
