Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: ““The present disclosure relates generally to human-computer interfaces and machi ne learning, and moreparticularly to recognizing user-defined patterns at edge devices utilizing a hybrid remote-local processingapproach.“Virtual assistant systems are incorporated into a wide variety of consumer elec tronics devices, includingsmartphones/tablets, personal computers, wearable dev ices, smart speaker devices such as AmazonEcho, Apple HomePod, and Google Home, as well as household appliances and motor vehicle entertainmentsystems. In gen eral, virtual assistants enable natural language interaction with computing devi cesregardless of the input modality, though most conventional implementations i ncorporate voice recognitionand enable hands-free interaction with the device. Examples of possible functions that may be invokedvia a virtual assistant inclu de playing music, activating lights or other electrical devices, answering basicfactual questions, and ordering products from an e-commerce site. Beyond virtua l assistants incorporatedinto smartphones and smart speakers, there are a wide range of autonomous devices that capture variousenvironmental inputs and respon sively performing an action, and numerous household appliances such asrefrigera tors, washing machines, driers, ovens, timed cookers, thermostats/climate contro l devices, andthe like now incorporate voice-controlled interfaces.
