Nos. 4,684,113 and 5,722,646. In the caseof U.S. Pat. No . 4,684,113 multiple workpiece engaging rods are actuated by motor driven screws , whilewith U.S. Pat. No. 5,722,646 multiple workpiece engaging rods are actuat ed fluidically. Substantially alluniversal tooling systems utilized in the aero space industry for holding contoured workpieces are based onone of these types of active systems.
