No assignee for this patent application has been made.News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“The statements in the background of the invention are prov ided to assist with understanding the inventionand its applications and uses, a nd may not constitute prior art.“There are several approaches that have been used to change end effector tools f or robotic systemsto pick objects of varying dimensions, weights, materials, an d levels of fragility. However, many of theseapproaches either require human in tervention, are too slow, do not retain the new tool firmly, or areunreliable. For example, some conventional tool changers have two or more magnets that are m agnetizedand are axially symmetric. Such a tool changer has a low radial streng th, and the tool portion can becomeunintentionally disconnected from the roboti c arm portion with even a minor transverse force. Such atool changer can also e asily rotate, even when such rotation is undesired, and there is no control over theaxial rotation.
