From the background information supplied by the inventors, news correspondents o btained the followingquote: “Above ground pipelines develop internal corrosion as well as corrosion underneath insulation(“CUI”) on the exterior of the pipe. CUI typically occurs due to a moisture buildup on the external surfaceof insula ted equipment. The corrosion itself is most commonly galvanic, chloride, acidic, or alkalinecorrosion. If undetected, the results of CUI can lead to leaks, the eventual shutdown of a pipeline, andin rare cases it may lead to a safety inci dent. Accordingly, it is important to periodically inspect aboveground pipeline s for the presence of corrosion.
