Abstract
News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Replacing the biological lens of an eye with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL)-for example, in the case ofan (age-related) refractive error or in the case of cataracts-has become ever more common in the field ofop hthalmology in recent years. In the process, the biological lens is detached fro m the capsular bag byway of a minimally invasive intervention and removed. The lens, which has become opacified in the caseof a cataract, is then replaced by an artificial lens implant. In the process, this artificial lens implant orintr aocular lens is inserted into the then empty capsular bag. Knowledge of the corr ect position of theintraocular lens and the necessary refractive power depend o n one another.
