Abstract

According to news originatingfrom Tempe, Arizona, by NewsRx co rrespondents, research stated, “Inspired by self-burial seeds andburrowing amph isbaenians, we experimentally explored the effect of rotation on vertical and ho rizontalpenetration resistance in shallow sands; we then integrated the finding s with previously identified burrowingprinciples to design a soft, horizontal b urrowing robot. A rotational penetration system was developed byintegrating a s ix-axis robotic arm with custom motorized penetrators and corresponding control and dataacquisition units.”
