News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Mobile robotic devices are becoming increasingly common in consumer homes and commercial spaces.In several instances, mobile robotic devi ces are desirable for the convenience they provide to a user. Forexample, mobil e robotic devices may be used in waste management to provide a convenience to us ers asa large amount of refuse is accumulated on a daily basis, the refuse incl uding but not limited to trash,yard waste, recyclable materials, and the like. The refuse is often accumulated in bins that are transferredto a refuse collect ion location by the user. This may be inconvenient and/or unsatisfying for the u seras waste management requires user intervention and handling of the bins may be unsanitary. A mobilerobotic device that may autonomously manage the refuse o f a user is therefore desirable.”
