News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Field of the Disclosure“The present disclosure generally relates to cylindrical component configuration s for optical fibers and, more particularly, to an apparatus, method and storage medium for concentric alignment of cylindricalcomponents. “Description of the Related Art“The use of optical fibers grows in many industrial, communication, and medical applications. A fiberoptic link generally has components including, for example , an optical transmitter, an optical fiber or cable, connectors, an optical rece iver, or the like. The transmitter may convert electrical signals to optical andmay contain a light source including, for example, a light emitting diode (LED) , a laser diode, or the like.An optical fiber may be made of three concentric l ayers including, for example, the core, cladding, coating,or the like. The core may be the light transmitting region of the fiber. The cladding may be the firs tlayer around the core and may create an optical waveguide to confine the light in the core by total internalreflection at the core-cladding interface. The co ating may be a non-optical layer around the claddingand may be stripped off whe n the fiber is connected. Single or multimode fiber optic configurationsmay be used in fiber optic communications, depending on the application. Light may trav el through thefiber following different light paths in a multimode fiber optic configuration. In a single mode fiber opticconfiguration, only one mode is sent straight through the fiber.
