The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied bythe inventors: “Multiview systems, where multiple cameras captu re the same scene, are widely used inapplications such as surveillance systems, public security systems, video-assisted refereeing, umpiring insports, etc. It becomes increasingly popular to use the multiview systems to collect a vast amo unt ofinformation in the applications for reliable data analysis, three-dimensi onal reconstructions, or implementationof other tasks. For each of these implem entations, the same instance of an object of interest isrequired to be segmente d in the multiple images that are captured from different angles and different zoom settings. In other words, reliable identification of duplicate instances of the object of interest fromthe multiple images is required to avoid double coun ting and overcompensating. The existing duplicationidentification methods, howe ver, are complex and time-consuming. Another challenge is accuratephysical dime nsion detection for an object by merely using images of the object obtained in a multiviewsystem. This is particularly complicated when the images are captured by mobile devices in an uncontrolledenvironment.
