By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Robotics & Machine Learning DailyNews Daily News - New research on Robotics is the subjec t of a report. According to news reportingoriginating in Shanghai, People’s Rep ublic of China, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “Soft materialbasedrob ots, known for their safety and compliance, are expected to play an irreplaceabl e role in humanrobotcollaboration. However, this expectation is far from real industrial applications due to their complexprogrammability and poor motion pre cision, brought by the super elasticity and large hysteresis of softmaterials.”Financial support for this research came from National Natural Science Foundatio n of China. The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from Shanghai Jiao Tong Un iversity, “Here, asoft collaborative robot (Soft Co-bot) with intuitive and eas y programming by contact-based drag teaching, and also with exceptional motion r epeatability (<0.30% of body length) and ult ra-low hysteresis (<2.0%) is reported. Such a n unprecedented capability is achieved by a biomimetic antagonistic design withi na pneumatic soft robot, in which cables are threaded to servo motors through t ension sensors to form aself-sensing system, thus providing both precise actuat ion and dragging-aware collaboration. Hence, theSoft Co-bots can be first taugh t by human drag and then precisely repeat various tasks on their own, suchas el ectronics assembling, machine tool installation, etc.”
