News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: “Under-display cameras (UDCs) are being used in various mob ile electronic devices and other electronic devices, such as smartphones and tab let computers. An under-display camera refers to a camera positioned underneath a display of an electronic device. Often times, an under-display camera can be u sed as a forward-facing camera to capture still or video images of a user of an electronic device. This approach helps to obscure the camera and reduce or elimi nate the need to include circular, pill-shaped, notched, or other cutouts in a d isplay. Due to optical diffraction and noise generated by having a display in fr ont of a camera lens, image restoration is performed in order to improve the qua lity of images captured by an under-display camera.”
