Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “In an online concierge system, a customer may p lace an order for one or more items available at a physical retailer for procure ment and delivery by an assigned picker that shops on behalf of the customer. Fo r orders containing perishable food items, a retailer may have a wide range of i tems available that have differing remaining shelf-lives or other quality charac teristics. A challenge can therefore exist for the picker in selecting the speci fic perishable items for fulfilling an order that will best meet the customer’s preferences.”
