From the background information supplied by the inventors, news correspondents o btained the following quote: “Geospatial data images, representing a portion of the earth’s surface, may be used to identify features of interest such as commer cially exploitable features or geohazards. In particular, the effective identifi cation and mapping of subsea geohazards is critical to safe and economically eff icient subsea operations, including oil and gas operations. Subsea geospatial da ta images may be collected in many different forms, including, for example, mult ibeam echosounder (MBES) bathymetry data, datasets from spectral sensors, satell ite imagery, airborne laser bathymetry, and optical images from autonomous or re mote-operated vehicles. While large amounts of subsea geospatial data are genera ted, the identification and mapping of features of interest is a critical and of ten rate-limiting step in data image processing and analysis. Accordingly, impro ved methods of analyzing and processing geospatial data are desirable.
