The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “A robot joint or other machine moving part ofte n uses a speed reducer comprised of a shaft, bearing, gears, and other machine e lements. As the method of lubrication of the machine elements at the inside of t he speed reducer, use of an oil bath system arranging the machine elements insid e a sealed lubrication chamber and sealing a lubricant in the lubrication chambe r to form an oil bath has been the general practice. In the oil bath system, met al particles, sludge, and other debris are generated due to the wear of the mach ine elements and heat generated by the lubricant, so it has been necessary to pe riodically clean or replace the lubricant inside the lubrication chamber. For th is reason, a fill inlet of the lubricant has been provided at the top part of th e lubrication chamber and a drain outlet has been provided at the bottom part. A s the structure of the lubrication chamber, one sandwiching the two sides of the speed reducer in the axial direction by predetermined members has been the gene ral practice, so often relatively large spaces are formed at the two sides of th e speed reducer.
