Abstract

The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by the inventors: “In an online concierge system, customers may se lect items for ordering, procurement and delivery from physical retailers or oth er warehouses. A significant component of the delay between a customer placing a nd receiving an order can arise from the time it takes for a picker to retrieve ordered items from a retail shelf or other storage location. Reducing the time t o obtain items after an order is placed can result in significantly faster deliv eries, which can improve customer satisfaction and profitability.”
