News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: “From the prior art, surgical instruments are known which c an be guided manually or by a robot and which have tools whose tool tip can be p ivoted by means of a plurality of pivoting members engaging in one another. Thes e pivoting members are connected to a plurality of steering wires or steering ca bles in order to achieve sensitive control of the tool tip. The steering wires c an be used to obtain a uniform distribution of forces in all unwinding directions.
