Abstract

News editors obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors: “Especially in the datacenter context, programmable smart network interface controllers (NICs) are becoming more commonplace. These smart NICs typically include a central processing unit (CPU), possibly in addition to one or more application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) or field-programmabl e gate arrays (FPGAs). These ASICs (or FPGAs) can be designed for packet process ing as well as other uses. However, the inclusion of the CPU also allows for more configurability of the smart NICs, thereby enabling the offloading of some tas ks from software of a host computer.”
