News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: "Machine-learning and other automated modeling processes ca n be used to perform one or more functions (e.g., acquiring, processing, analyzi ng, and understanding various inputs in order to produce an output that includes numerical or symbolic information). For instance, such techniques can involve u sing computerimplemented models and algorithms (e.g., a convolutional neural ne twork, a support vector machine, etc.) to simulate human decision-making. In one example, a computer system programmed with a machinelearning model can learn f rom training data and thereby perform a future task that involves circumstances or inputs similar to the training data. Such a computing system can be used, for example, to recognize certain individuals or objects in an image, to simulate o r predict future actions by an entity based on a pattern of interactions to a gi ven individual, etc."
