(Arvada , CO, US); Garrison, David M. (Longmont, CO, US); Gherardi, Pierre (Tolochenaz, CH); Joseph, Daniel A. (Golden, CO, US); Lennartz, Amanda H. (Erie, CO, US); McH enry, Jennifer R. (Denver, CO, US); Twomey, Cornelia F. (Longmont, CO, US); Wehr ly, Erin E. (Longmont, CO, US); Zhao, Jing (Superior, CO, US), filed on January 29, 2024, was made available online on May 23, 2024. No assignee for this patent application has been made. News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors: “A surgical forceps is a pliers-like instrument that relies on mechanical action between its jaw members to grasp, clamp, and constrict tis sue. Electrosurgical forceps utilize both mechanical clamping action and energy to heat tissue to treat, e.g., coagulate, cauterize, or seal, tissue. Typically, once tissue is treated, the surgeon has to accurately sever the treated tissue. Accordingly, many electrosurgical forceps are designed to incorporate a knife o r cutting member utilized to effectively sever the treated tissue.”
