This patent application has not been assigned to a company or institution.The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied bythe inventors: “Molding sand used for molding is generated by m ixing, with a sand mixer, a given amountof silica sand, a given amount of clay such as bentonite, and a given amount of an additive such as seacoal or starch. The mold is shaken out after used in casting. To green sand obtained as a resul t of theshake-out, clay and an additive are added again. A resultant is reused as molding sand. In this process,an amount of clay required to be added varies depending on the active clay content in the green sand. Inorder to properly reu se the green sand, it is necessary to measure the active clay content in the gre ensand.
