The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by theinventors: “A mobile robot operates by navigating around an environment. The mobile robot can includea body, shell, or bumper that can con tact obstacles that the mobile robot encounters during operation.The mobile rob ot can change its behavior in response to detecting an impact event with such an obstacle.For example, the mobile robot can back away from the obstacle or othe rwise alter its path.”
