For example, machines and sensors in ind ustries, such as oil and gas industry, metalsand mining industry, and semicondu ctor industry, produce terabytes of operational data over time fromacross the e nterprise. There are numerous challenges that arise in managing and reviewing la rge volumesof data. These challenges range from delivering and presenting data at the frontend to processing andstorage limitations at the backend. One approa ch to processing operational data is to create a snapshot ofthe performance of a machine or industrial process at different points in time, each snapshot repre sentinga different portion of the operation data. Then the snapshots can be com pared directly with each other.However, such an approach requires a significant amount of storage and, more importantly, is unable toaccurately capture featur es (such as slope, highs, and lows) of different snapshots, particularly if twosnapshots are not perfectly aligned.
