Abstract
News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Conventionally, painting nails involves using a brush with flexible bristles that is dipped into a bottle ofnail polish and used to paint natural or artificial nails. It involves a high degree of precision and accurac yon the part of a human to apply a smooth coat of nail polish on nails while st aying within the boundariesof the nail. The high degree of precision and accura cy required has posed a challenge to mechanizing thepainting of nails. Conventi onal robotic methods have been unable to replicate the accurate and smoothcoats of nail polish achievable by humans. In addition, achieving a complete mechaniz ed system thatincludes one or more of blotting and removal of blots, storage an d placement of nail polish containers, and removal of polish has not been feasib le.”
