No assignee for this patent application has been made.News editors obtained the following quote from the background information suppli ed by the inventors:“Adhesive-backed tape is commonly applied to body surfaces, interior and exterior claddings and panels(e.g. trim, moldings, covers, trays, panels, doors and hatches) of a vehicle (e.g., an automobile, aircraft, orwate rcraft), or structures (e.g. buildings, HVAC units). For example, an adhesive-ba cked tape mountedaround the periphery of a cladding on a vehicle component prov ides a seal which helps to control waterintrusion, and reduce cabin noise due t o wind when the vehicle is in motion, as well as control dustintrusion into the cabin and engine parts. Such tapes may be manually installed, however such a pr ocessis not only slow, but labour intensive, and prone to human error. In addit ion, the application process maynot be uniform, predictable or reproducible.
