Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Individuals associated with an organization (e.g., a company or business entity) may have restrictedaccess to electronic documents and data that are stored across various repositories and data stores, such asenterprise databases and cloud-based data storage services. The data may comprise unstructu red data orstructured data (e.g., the data may be stored within a relational da tabase). A search engine may allow thedata to be indexed, searched, and display ed to authorized users that have permission to access or view thedata. A user o f the search engine may provide a textual search query to the search engine and in returnthe search engine may display the most relevant search results for the search query as links to electronicdocuments, web pages, electronic messages, images, videos, and other digital content. To determine themost relevant search results, the search engine may search for relevant information within a search indexfor the data and then score and rank the relevant information. In some cas es, an electronic documentindexed by the search engine may have an associated a ccess control list (ACL) that includes access controlentries that identify the access rights that the user has to the electronic document. The most relevant search results for the search query that are displayed to the user may comprise li nks to electronic documentsand other digital content that the user is authorize d to access in accordance with access control lists forthe underlying electroni c documents and other digital content.”
