Moreover, in connection with a checkout process during which the buyer typically tenders payment for the goods or services being purchased, a laser orscanner of the cash register can be utilized by either a human employe e of the retailer, also known asa cashier, or by the buyer to scan a printed co ded marking on, or for, the item(s) or service(s) beingpurchased. Such coded ma rkings can include, for example, a Uniform Product Code (UPC) barcodes orQuick Response (QR) code.
