“Recent studies suggest that calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) neurons in t he parabrachialnucleus (PBN) represent aversive information and signal a genera l alarm to the forebrain. If CGRPneurons serve as a true general alarm, activat ion of CGRP neurons can trigger either freezing or fleeingdefensive behavior, d epending on the circumstances.
