The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied bythe inventors: “Impulse lines may be connected to a pipe or ves sel for use in for monitoring the propertiesof its contents. An impulse line ma y typically include a small diameter tube or pipe for receiving material. The im pulse line may be provided with a sensor for measuring a property of the materia l and a transmitterfor transmitting the measured property to a control system. However, in cold environments frozen fluidor gas condensates can plug the tube of the impulse line, which risks causing the transmitter to send anincorrect si gnal or reading to the control system. This can result in a process upset or a p lant tripping. In extreme cases, a frozen impulse line can rupture. Process flui d leaks can result in product loss, energyloss, measurement errors, and can be a serious threat to personnel safety and the environment.”
