Abstract
The following quote was obtained by the news editors from the background informa tion supplied by theinventors: “Electronic messaging, including email and insta nt messaging, can result in a lack of efficiencyfor the sender and receiver due to the number of actions needed to appropriately respond to an electronicmessa ge. For example, a message can require that a meeting be scheduled and that vari ous tasks beallocated to the receiver. Further, the receiver must generate a re sponse to the electronic message toacknowledge the receipt of the message. All of these actions may be necessary, but at the same time can disrupt the workflow of the receiver. Thus, a system for automating email responses and other action sarising from the email response is desirable.”
