Abstract

By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Robotics & Machine Learning DailyNews Daily News - The iridescent colors known from peaco ck feathers or butterfly wings are created bytiny structures that reflect light in a special way. Some bacterial colonies form similar glittering structures.I n collaboration with the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Leibni z Institute DSMZGermanCollection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures, Utrecht University, University of Cambridge, andthe Netherlands Institute for Sea Resea rch, the scientists sequenced the DNA of 87 structurally coloredbacteria and 30 colorless strains and identified genes that are responsible for these fascinati ng colonies.These findings could lead to the development of environmentally fri endly dyes and materials, a key interestof the collaborating biotechnology comp any Hoekmine BV.
