C ountries worldwide spend significant resourceson monitoring air quality and con trolling air pollution. One of the major problems is that instrumentsthat can a ccurately monitor air quality are expensive and typically require expertise to o perate properly.Currently, air quality monitoring is mainly performed by govern ment agencies and dedicated organizationsusing specialized instrumentation. As a result, general air quality data often does not provide the fidelity necessary to pinpoint issues at a scale smaller than a regional level. Real-time air qual ity monitoring at afiner scale may be cost-prohibitive because air quality moni toring instruments can be expensive.
