Reporters obtained the following quote from the background information supplied by the inventors:“Application devices are known from the prior art. With the he lp of these application devices, one-piecesealing elements produced by punching , for example, are adhered to substrates. These sealing elementshave an undersi de and an upper side. The underside in this case forms a first main joining surf ace, and theupper side forms a second main joining surface. The sealing element s can be adhered to a first substratewith their first main joining surface. Sub sequently, a second substrate can be adhered to the second mainjoining surfaces of the sealing elements. With the help of the sealing elements, the two substra tes canthereby be connected to one other. In particular, a one-piece sealing el ement produced by punching canbe shaped in such a way that when the first main joining surface is connected to a first substrate and thesecond main joining su rface is connected to a second substrate, a cavity is formed between the two substrates which is enclosed by the two substrates and the sealing element in such a manner that the twosubstrates and the sealing element seal the cavity from th e environment of the two substrates and thesealing element.
